Duke City Named One of World's Five Best Vacations

By Jim Ludwick
Journal Staff Writer
Next year's vacation: Albuquerque or Reykjavik?
Albuquerque, along with the capital of Iceland, is predicted to be among the top five destinations worldwide, according to Orbitz, an online travel company.
Orbitz travel experts unveiled a list this week of five cities "that are sure to be some of the most popular within the next five years."
Besides Albuquerque, the cities are: Reykjavik; Shanghai, China; Cape Town, South Africa and hurricane-ravaged New Orleans.
It mentions Albuquerque's climate, food, a "variety of world-class resorts" and attractions such as the Balloon Fiesta and Old Town.
It's "a very, very special time for Albuquerque," Mayor Martin Chávez said, citing the recent announcement that Forbes magazine ranked Albuquerque the No. 1 city in the U.S. for business and careers.
"Some things are new about Albuquerque, but some things are just being discovered that have been with us all the time," Chávez said.
