Professional Rodeo Cowboys Assn. Relocating to ABQ

Associated Press
SANTA FE — The Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association is moving its headquarters and rodeo Hall of Fame from Colorado to Albuquerque, bringing 85 full-time jobs and a $3.35 million payroll to New Mexico, Gov. Bill Richardson said Saturday.
"This announcement is a win for the entire state of New Mexico,'' Richardson said in a news release. "This move will have a major positive impact, not just on rodeo in New Mexico but on New Mexico's economy as well.''
As part of a relocation agreement, the PRCA will bring "major rodeo events'' to New Mexico and promote the state at the organization's events elsewhere, the news release said. An estimated 50,000 fans visit the Hall of Fame each year.
PRCA officials didn't immediately return telephone messages seeking comment at the organization's current headquarters in Colorado Springs.
Details on the relocation agreement were being completed over the weekend, including the location of planned PRCA facilities in Albuquerque. Richardson plans to disclose more information at a news conference Monday in Santa Fe, a spokesman said.
The PRCA sanctions more than 650 rodeos each year, drawing 24 million fans. The organization has been based in Colorado Springs since 1979.
