New Mexico ranks as the 13th fastest growing state in the nation, according to new figures from the U.S. Census Bureau.
By the Census Bureau's estimate, New Mexico now has more than 1.9 million residents.
The state added more than 27,000 residents in the 12 months that ended July 1, the bureau said.
The Census Bureau will release a more detailed, county-by-county population estimate in March.
The fastest-growing states continue to be in the Rocky Mountain region and the Southeast, the bureau said. Nevada has the title of the fastest-growing state, with its population growing by 2.9 percent to 2.6 million.
The Census Bureau estimate is reached by measuring births, deaths and migration into and out of all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico.
