Six Get Training Money; State Promises $2.1 Million

By Andrew Webb/
Associated Press
Six companies on Friday were awarded a total of $2.1 million in Job Training Incentive Program funds to train a total of 648 new employees.
The biggest chunk went to Client Logic, for a Las Cruces customer support call center that began hiring earlier this month. It was awarded $916,203 to train 458 new employees, who will be paid an average hourly wage of $10.48.
Cardinal Health, an Ohiobased health care financial services company, will use $918,278 to train 163 new employees at its Albuquerque office. They will be paid an average hourly wage of $14.61.
GUNA Inc., an Albuquerque homeopathic products distributor, received $105,582 to train 14 new employees.
Environmental Restoration Group, an Albuquerque radiological testing and consulting firm, was awarded $39,833 to train three new employees, who will be paid an average hourly wage of $22.63.
Altela Inc., an Albuquerque company developing water desalination systems, was given provisional approval, pending additional paperwork, for $94,930 to train seven new employees, who will be paid an average hourly wage of $24.05.
And FSM Labs, a Socorro software development company, will use $56,700 to train three new workers at an average wage of $27.50 per hour.
The JTIP program is managed by the New Mexico Economic Development Department. It has a fund of about $20 million, from which it reimburses training costs for companies that meet certain economic and wage criteria.
The program got $7 million from the Legislature this year.
