NIE FAQs

	What is Newspapers in Education?
	It is a program designed to get multiple copies of the Albuquerque Journal into teacher's classrooms to use as a teaching tool in addition to or instead of texts.

	How much does it cost?
	The newspaper has a special educator rate: the Albuquerque Journal costs $.185/copy/day and The Sunday Journal costs $.61/copy/day. You need to order a minimum of 7 copies for at least 26 days. Many times NIE can locate a business to sponsor classroom sets. (See ABC Kids section.)

	What else is available through NIE?
	Newspapers in Education has a storeroom full of teacher materials! See the Materials Available page for a listing. NIE also arranges classroom presentations on various newspaper industry topics: production, editing, reporting, photojournalism, etc. Please call 823-3506 to arrange for a guest speaker or presentation. Teachers who receive NIE papers also qualify for a FREE on-line subscription to the Journal. NIE also sends daily activities based on the current paper to teachers requesting to be on our e-mail list. Send your request to nwood@abqpubco.com or spierce@abqpubco.com.

	Can someone show me how to incorporate the newspaper in my classroom?
	Yes! NIE staff is available to model lessons, teach in-services, and help plan units.NIE also offers teacher workshops at the Albuquerque Publishing Company throughout the year. Information about workshops is available through monthly mailings. If you would like individual consultation, please call 823-3506. Individual consultations, in-services, and model lessons are all FREE. Teacher workshops have a very low registration fee, depending on length of the workshop.

	Can my students tour the publishing plant?
	Of course! Tours can be arranged for students who are in the 4th grade or older. Simply call 823-3500 to schedule one.

	What is ABC Kids?
	The NIE staff contacts businesses, clubs, organizations, and individuals asking them to sponsor the newspaper for classrooms. If you would like a sponsor for your papers click here. Once you get a sponsor for your papers, NIE asks that you send thank you notes or some type of recognition to your sponsor 1-3 times during the year. This helps us retain businesses as sponsors from year to year.
