Forum To Discuss
Wildfire Dangers
A public forum to discuss issues related to the danger of a wildfire in the East Mountains will be held Wednesday at Los Vecinos Community Center in Tijeras.
Issues including preparing in advance for the expected active fire season as well as notification of residents and evacuation plans for people and pets will be discussed at the meeting, which begins at 7 p.m.
U.S. Forest Service officials will be on hand to provide the latest information on fire danger, and Bernalillo County Fire Chief Bett Clark will discuss plans for fighting a fire in the area.
The forum is sponsored by the East Mountain Coalition of Neighborhood and Landowner Associations and Bernalillo County Commissioner Michael Brasher.
Veterinarian To
Visit 4-H K-9 Club
The Torrance County 4-H K-9 Club will have a veterinarian as guest speaker Wednesday.
Laura Hady, DVM, will speak to the club at 6:30 p.m. at the Torrance County Fair building in Estancia. Hady will talk about canine care through different life stages and show a physical exam from the front to the back of the animal.
New Mexico Veterinary Medical Association executive director Tamara Spooner said Hady's appearance is part of the association's effort to encourage New Mexico student performance in math and science.
"During conversations I have hosted across New Mexico, it is clear that students need to be exposed to the practical success of learning math and science as being an integral part of becoming a veterinarian," Spooner said. "We are committed to supporting schools and organizations like 4-H in New Mexico by closing the achievement gap and ensuring that students see the need of math and science for every child to succeed."
The 4-H K-9 Club meets weekly on Wednesday nights. For more information call Kim Banales at 384-1345.
