Speak up!!
A BIG THANKS to the honest man who, after much trouble, returned the purse I left in cart at the Wal-Mart parking lot on Carlisle. He used my cell phone to reach my son in Pittsburgh, received instructions to give the purse to my neighbor. No one, however, got Carlos' last name. A big thank you! C.M.
CONGRESS GIVES the CEOs grief for flying their private jets to Washington. But the president, our CEO, flies his 747 to Denver to sign something that could be signed in Washington. R.B.
I MUST BE one of about five law-abiding motorists that travels every morning and evening through the I-40/Louisiana construction area although I have as yet to see the other four. After being repeatedly tailgated, cut off, flipped off and honked at for traveling the posted speed limit, I am curious as to why I have never seen a police officer in the area. Surely it would be a ticket gold mine. M.M.
KIM JONG IL, noted in the Feb. 16 “Today's Birthdays” list are we that hard up for celebrities to be acknowledged? M.L.C.
THE RIO GRANDE community is at it again. Linda Torres isn't good enough for Rio Grande High School. There have been at least four other principals that weren't good enough. What they should be concerned about is the low test scores and the biggest achievement gap in the city. Maybe they can put all that negative energy into working with anyone brave enough to try to go there. N.F.
ELLEN BERNSTEIN, the Albuquerque Teachers Federation president, complains that business has no right to oppose education taxes and needs to be quiet. Bernstein needs to be reminded that education exists to provide qualified labor to business, not paychecks to teachers . G.S.W.
DRINK! DRIVE! You lose! Unless you have big connections! D.R.
AN ISSUE is being made that members of Congress did not read the 1,200 page stimulus bill. Congress routinely passes 1,000-2,000 page bills. Does anyone believe each member reads each of these bills? If the public now has a concern they should insist that no bill exceed 200 pages to help ensure each is read by all. J.A.T.
IT IS A sad day for our state when senators cast their votes based on the will of their religion over that of their constituents. If they are going to be bound by and cast their votes based on Papal Law, then maybe they should pack up and move to Rome. R.D.R.
I THOUGHT taking time out on the taxpayers' dollar to pass the state's official bolo tie was a bit ridiculous, but now a guitar! Please stop messing around and get down to real business! What next, a state tumbleweed?! - K.D.
I SEE THAT the president wants to take over the census. Maybe he could use ACORN to gather info. The stimulus bill just gave them the opportunity to get billions. History proves that they will do a great job. S.S.
IN RESPONSE to the article, “A Growing Concern,” it is apparent the writer does no grocery shopping. Every week I go to the store, I find prices increasing. The article says federal statistics show prices have been declining in November and December. I would love to know what those statistics were based on. Certainly not food! I am curious, when does the deepest recession in decades turn into a depression? C.O.
