New Animal Control Rules In Effect Permalink comment E-mail

Photo: Pat Vasquez-Cunningham / Journal.If you have any pets, be sure to take a look at Bernalillo County's new animal control rules - they go into effect today.

The most pertinent change: "All dogs, cats, and ferrets are required to have permanent identification in the form of a microchip, tattoo, or collar id, in addition to being required to have a rabies vaccination and license. All fees are increasing slightly, but provide incentives for responsible dog and cat owners." You are also no longer allowed to chain animals to stationary objects.

There are also new rules about the sale of dogs and cats as well as new language about animal cruelty and fighting animals. See all the ordinance changes at the Animal Control website.
