State education chief congratulates Moreno Valley, Hobbs, Santa Fe high schools

Moreno Valley High School in Angel Fire, Hobbs High School and Santa Fe High School are being saluted by state Secretary of Education Veronica C. Garcia for being named in the 2009 America's Top Public High Schools report by Newsweek magazine.
"The principals and teachers at these high schools should be honored for challenging their students with high expectations, advanced courses and a college prep curriculum," Garcia said in a news release. "Students and parents should be proud of the hard work they've put into creating a successful learning community."
According to the news release, schools were selected based on a formula that included the number of Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate or Cambridge tests taken by students, and the number of graduating seniors. Schools named to the list are in the top 6 percent of public high schools nationwide measured with this method, the news release said.
