Police do not know yet what caused crash

Multiple vehicle crash with extreme injuries causes traffic jam

 

A wrong-way driver who allegedly went from the eastbound lanes to the westbound lanes of Interstate 40 near the 171 mile marker near Carnuel caused a multiple vehicle accident that is tying up traffic, according to the Bernalillo County Sheriff's Department. The accident happened about 8 p.m.

The accident involves extreme injuries. Paramedics are on scene.

Westbound I-40 is closed near the crash.
