Santa Fe woman spent 36 hours near ski basin before being found early this morning.
Rescuers reached Laura Christensen early this morning after she went missing near the Santa Fe ski basin for about 36 hours, The New Mexican is reporting.
The Santa Fe woman sent a text message to a friend around 3 p.m. Tuesday, saying she already had been stranded on the mountain for 22 hours, state Department of Public Safety spokesman Peter Olson told the Albuquerque Journal on Tuesday. "She said she didn't know where she is and needs to get out," Olson told the Journal of the message. Christensen had been snowshoeing when she lost her way, the Journal said. Her car was found in the lower parking lot of the Santa Fe Ski Area, and a search and rescue mission was launched around 5 p.m., Olson told the Journal. She was located around 4 this morning and was able to hike out with her rescuer, Olson told The New Mexican.
