Trouble with Bernalillo County's computer system has been irritating voters all day. Randy Autio, the interim city clerk, said election workers are developing a backup spreadsheet to tabulate and distribute results at City Hall -- in case the county Web site can't be used to post results. The "Where Do I Vote" function on the site was also down for much of the day. "We were having problems with our server today," county spokeswoman Liz Hamm said. "We actually brought in (the contractor) to trying to get everything" back up. Some voters were livid about not being able to use the site to determine where they should vote. Precincts were consolidated for the election.

A man accused of killing five people, including two Albuquerque police officers, in a single day two years ago has been committed to a state mental institution for 179 years. State District Judge Pat Murdoch made his decision Tuesday after hearing nearly two days of testimony in a hearing that was meant to determine whether John Hyde remained a danger and whether there was enough evidence to convict him of the August 2005 crimes. The ruling means Hyde will remain at the New Mexico Behavioral Health Institute in Las Vegas, where he has remained since shortly after the shootings. -- The Associated Press

Rio Bravo Boulevard, from 11 p.m. today through 5 p.m. Sunday, is scheduled to be closed in both directions at the railroad tracks, just east of Second Street, the state Department of Transportation reports. The DOT and New Mexico Rail Runner Express operators are making improvments to the roadway and railroad track crossing. "These improvements will greatly increase railroad safety in the area," Lawrence Rael, executive director of the Mid-Region Council of Goverments, said in a news release. "Having regular commuter service in the middle region of the state has really brought attention to track and road safety, which is very important." Detours for drivers will be posted.
