Crime Stoppers seeks tips on 43 cows stolen from ranch.

The New Mexico Livestock Board has enlisted the help of Crime Stoppers to solve an unusually large theft of cattle that probably occurred in January, the Deming Headlight reported today on its Web site.

According to livestock inspector Olin Lynch, the 43 cows were probably stolen in January from the Cedar Grove Ranch owned by Allen Kasparian, south of Gage in Luna County, the Headlight reported.

Yvonne Kasparian told the paper that the theft wasn't discovered until late May because her husband had undergone back surgery and wasn't able to ride the ranch to check on livestock.

The rustlers most likely came through a neighboring ranch to get to the Cedar Grove Ranch, Yvonne Kasparian told the Headlight.

Anyone with information is asked to call the local Crime Stoppers number at (505) 546-7800 or Olin Lynch at (505) 494-7495. Callers to Crime Stoppers will remain anonymous, the Headlight reported.

Livestock Board member Sam Wilson told the paper that rustling does occur around New Mexico but usually only two or three cattle at a time, "not in the numbers missing in the Kasparian case."
