Mayor's Dog Ball

About 110 animal enthusiasts and their canine companions gathered Saturday evening for the Fourth Annual Mayor’s Dog Ball at the Albuquerque Museum. The event, sponsored by the city and a handful of area businesses and organizations, brought in an estimated $100,000, said city spokeswoman Deborah James. The funds will go to the public schools to raise awareness about Albuquerque’s pet overpopulation problem and the importance of spaying and neutering pets, James said. Last year, an estimated 30,000 animals were brought into the city’s animal shelter, and homes were found for only about 13,000, according to city officials. The fundraiser included a reception, dinner and entertainment.
