Santa Fe police say man found in couple's fish pond is city resident.

Charles and Edwina Milner returned Tuesday from California to find a dead body in a backyard koi pond at their home in northeast Santa Fe, according to a story in this morning's Albuquerque Journal.

The Milners said they had no idea how the body, which they found floating face down in their pool for ornamental fish, got there, and police also were baffled.

It turns out that the body was that of 64-year-old John Wharton of Santa Fe, according to an Associated Press story on KOB-TV's Web site.

Wharton, according to AP, was hired by the Milners to watch their dog while they spent the past week in California, where they helped build New Mexico's "Land of Enchantment" float for Monday's Tournament of Roses parade.

There were no signs of trauma on Wharton's body which was taken to the Office of the Medical Investigator in Albuquerque to determine the cause of death.
