Santa Fe County Sheriff Greg Solano reports the death of Carlos Chacon, 35, of Santa Fe, according to a press release e-mailed this morning. At approximately 9 p.m. Monday, Chacon was driving a 1999 Silver Dodge Durango North bound on South Meadows off of Airport Road when he crashed into a Security Vehicle from G & R Security. South Meadows is currently Closed from Airport Road to Agua Fria for construction. Chacon’s vehicle apparently went around barricades at a high rate of speed when it struck the Ford Focus security vehicle which was parked in the center of a roundabout under construction. The Durango went airborne and rolled, . Chacon was pronounced dead at the scene. After the crash a manager from Motor Mart used car lot on Cerrillos Road reported the Durango was stolen. The case is still under investigation. Alcohol is suspected as a factor in the crash, confirmation of this will be pending toxicology reports.
