BAD BUZZ: The Internet buzz from Richardson’s Sunday-morning appearance on NBC’s “Meet the Press” generally has been harsh. Richardson spent a full hour fielding tough questions from show host Tim Russert, and the Daily Kos Web site has numerous postings critical of the gov’s performance. “Get thee to a media trainer, Bill,” one Kos poster wrote. “The thing that jumped out at me was the way Richardson was looking down at the desk when he spoke. He really does need some coaching,” said another posting. “Painful to watch,” remarked another. Are they right, or did Richardson fare better than these critics claim? You decide: Full video of the show and a written transcript are posted at msnbc.com SOX OR YANKS? Richardson has found himself in a sticky situation involving the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox — longtime bitter baseball rivals. Richardson proclaims himself a Sox fan. But earlier this year, he told The Associated Press that his alternate career choice would be playing center field for the Yankees. Pressed on the issue by Russert on Sunday, Richardson said his favorite team has always been the Red Sox but added he’s also a Yankees fan. “I mean, this is the thing about me, Tim. I can bring people together. I can unify people,” Richardson told Russert. “Yankee fans and Red Sox fans?” asked Russert. “Yes,” replied Richardson. “Not a chance,” cracked Russert. As a child growing up in Mexico City, Richardson teamed up with his buddies to form a baseball team. The name of the team: Los Yankees.
DINNER WITH THE CANDIDATES: C-SPAN says it plans to provide live TV coverage of Saturday night’s Iowa Democratic Party “Hall of Fame” dinner featuring Richardson and four other Dem White House hopefuls. Front-runner Hillary Clinton, John Edwards, Joe Biden and Chris Dodd are scheduled to be at the dinner along with Richardson. The dinner at the Crowne Plaza Five Seasons Hotel in Cedar Rapids begins at 5:30 p.m. MDT.
