City ranks 3rd in magazine survey

A national magazine ranks the Duke City the third best city in the nation for dogs.

Men’s Health  based its ranking on  dog ownership rates, dog parks, pet stores, animal shelters, boarding kennels, incidents of heartworm and number of veterinarians.

The Southwest and Pacific Northwest fared well on the list. Colorado Springs and Portland, Ore., won the gold and silver, followed by Albuquerque. Tucson and Seattle were named to fourth and fifth place.

It's ironic that a city with near the highest incidence of pet overpopulation in the country, and one that does little to actively root out and prosecute dog fighters, scores so high in this particular ranking. It just shows that Men's Health missed some important variables in coming up with its ranking criteria.
