Teenage family member arrested by Clovis police.

Four-month-old Christopher Valdez was reported dead around 11 p.m. Saturday, and a 16-year-old relative was arrested on a charge of negligent child abuse resulting in death, the Clovis News-Journal reported on its Web site.

Police are not releasing the name of the teenager, who is being held in the Curry County Juvenile Detention Center, nor will they say how the baby died other than to say the circumstances are "suspicious in nature," the News Journal reported.

Clovis police also reported the death of 19-year-old Wilfrid Salas Jr., who was found shot in the head in his car around 3:15 a.m. Sunday. Salas died at a Lubbock hospital about nine hours after he was admitted, police told the News-Journal.

Police told the paper they are looking at a "person of interest" but have not arrested anyone yet in the early Sunday morning shooting.
