El Paso police had to call for reinforcements to deal with unruly crowd of about 100 early Sunday.

University of Texas at El Paso linebacker Brian Austin Wilkins, 20, and wide receiver Tufick Shadrawy, 20, are looking at third-degree felony charges of assaulting a police officer in the wake of an early Sunday incident that drew a rowdy crowd of about 100 and resulted in the arrest of five UTEP players and a former teammate, the El Paso Times reported.

The incident took place around 3 a.m. Sunday when a large crowd gathered after a nearby nightspot, Club Blu, had closed, according to police reports and court documents obtained by the Times on Tuesday.

The six officers who first arrived on the scene downtown had to call for reinforcements when they were surrounded by an increasingly aggressive crowd, according to the documents cited by the Times. In all, 17 officers were involved in the incident.

According to a police affidavit, Wilkins yelled at an officer who was trying to arrest another person, "That's my friend. That's my friend," allegedly telling Officer Marco Flores, "I will knock your (expletive) head off," the Times reported.

As Flores tried to put Wilkins in a headlock, Wilkins allegedly clenched his fist, raised his arms and hit Flores as they wrestled to the ground before the football player was stunned by a Taser, according to the police report.

The documents also state that Shadrawy was told to leave, then allegedly went toward Officer Michael Ramirez, slapped his arm, then cursed Ramirez when he was told he was under arrest, then allegedly head-butted Ramirez in the jaw when the officer tried to grab him, the Times reported.

At one point, according to another police affidavit, officers chased after several subjects who were involved in the fight outside Club Blu, the Times said.

In addition to the five current UTEP players and one former player who had recently been dismissed from the team, two soldiers were also put under arrest -- 20-year-old Senette Keila Fuehrer and 22-year-old Elijah Majid Washington -- on resisting arrest and other charges, according to the paper.

Both were released to military police, the Times reported.
