Truthout, a left-leaning website and news roundup service, is reporting today that the Senate Ethics Committee's inquiry into Sen. Pete Domenici is moving forward.

Domenici is battling accusations that he improperly tried to influence the outcome of the 2006 elections by pressuring then-U.S. Attorney David Iglesias to speed up indictments of prominent Democrats before the 2006 election. Domenici has denied doing anything wrong.

The story by Jason Leopold says committee investigators have been conducting interviews with federal employees, including those at the U.S. attorneys office in New Mexico, about Domenici's call.

Leopold, who doesn't name any of his sources about the investigation, has been following the fired U.S. attorneys story for months. Last time I talked to Steve Bell, Domenici's chief of staff, he said they hadn't heard "a peep" from anyone on the ethics panel. If anyone reading this wants to discuss these interviews or anything else related to the case call me at 202-662-7488 or email me at mcoleman@abqjournal.com. Thanks.
