Man, 51, arrested after early-morning Tijeras Canyon incident.

Everett Luis Martinez, 51, was pulled over on Herrera Loop Road near Interstate 40 in Carnuel around 1:15 a.m. today on suspicion of drunken driving and when a second Bernalillo County sheriff's deputy pulled up Martinez is accused of ramming the second car and trying to flee, BCSO spokeswoman Erin Kinnard told ABQjournal.com.

Martinez drove off but abandoned his vehicle and took off on foot, and deputies found him walking along Old Hwy. 66 about an hour later, Kinnard said.

Martinez was booked into jail this morning on charges of aggravated battery on a peace officer; criminal damage to property over $1,000 and aggravated DWI, Kinnard said.

Martinez also had an outstanding felony warrant, she said.

According to Bernalillo County Detention Center records, the warrant charged Martinez with aggravated DWI, driving on a suspended or revoked license, leaving the scene of an accident and reckless driving.
