Digital film pioneer Christopher Coppola to shoot movie in March.

Film producers Christopher Coppola (brother of Nicholas Cage, nephew of Francis Ford Coppola) and Nicholas Paine are scheduled to shoot a movie with a current working title of "Big Bad Voodoo Momma" over 18 days beginning in late March, the Cibola County Beacon reports in its online edition.

The $350,000 film will star George Takei, who played Sulu in the original "Star Trek" television series, and "other well-known actors," the Beacon reported.

The movie will be shot on the New Mexico State University-Grants campus with several NMSU-Grants students participating, according to the Beacon.

And, the paper said, the film will be produced under the company name EARS XXI directly for the digital market.

Grants as a film location?

The Beacon says the Grants school, one of five in competition for getting its students involved in the project, was picked for the small size of its campus, the likelihood of a quick turnaround on the project, and the enthusiasm and flexibility of its students and staff.

And, according to the Internet Movie Database, Grants has played host to at least part of three earlier film features -- "21 Grams" (2003), "Clockers" (1995) and "Gas-s-s-s" (1971) as well as a TV reality series called "Back to the Floor" (2002).
