Police say violence has subsided.

The city of Santa Fe on Monday will end a contract with a taxi company to provide free cab rides for women.

The Santa Fe City Council has voted to terminate the contract with Capital City Cab.

The city spent nearly $60,000 on the program, which began in May after a series of sexual assaults against women.

Police say the wave of violence seems to have subsided since the jailhouse suicide of a man who was the target of an investigation into the rapes.

Between May 22 and Tuesday, 3,588 women used the service.

Women were asked to fill out vouchers so the cab company could bill the city for the service, but were also promised "no questions asked."
