Sheriff, chief deputy weigh in on Cheney hunting accident.

Thanks to The Smoking Gun Web site, we can now see the official report of last Saturday's incident where Vice President Dick Cheney accidentally shot his hunting partner, 78-year-old Austin lawyer Harry Whittington.

First is the incident report filed Wednesday by Kenedy County Chief Deputy Sheriff Gilberto San Miguel Jr., who visited the Armstrong Ranch the day after the shooting and talked to several people, including the vice president. San Miguel also went to Spohn Memorial Hospital in Corpus Christi, Texas, and talked to Whittington, who told him, among other things, "foremost there was no alcohol during the hunt ..." -- which may or may not mollify the conspiracy theorists out there on the Web and on talk radio.

Smoking Gun also has posted a two-page supplemental report by Sheriff Ramon Salinas III about how he learned of the shooting and his contact with Secret Service agents.

The Web site earlier this week posted a copy of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department's report on the incident that was filed on Tuesday.
