Fiesta spokeswoman said some 30 or 40 hot-air balloons were already up as of 7:30 a.m. and some 200 or 300 in all would take off this morning. "The Ark is up and the Bumblebees look like they're sunbathing, lying on their backs," she said. Following this morning's mass ascension, balloonists from off the field will be flying into to grab cash-stuffed envelopes perched on poles. Then this afternoon, the Wells Fargo Special Shapes Glowdeo looks like a go at around 5:45 p.m., followed by the Albuquerque Journal-sponsored AfterGlow fireworks show at 8 p.m., Leyendecker said.
Though the skies were still overcast at liftoff and the temperature around 50, clearer, sunnier and warmer weather was forecast for the rest of the day. The National Weather Service said high pressure building over New Mexico was expected to bring quieter weather through Saturday, according to The Associated Press.
