Commercial jet with 53 aboard lands at 4 Corners airport.

America West Express flight 6531 -- a twin-engine jet en route from Colorado Springs to Las Vegas, Nev., with 53 passengers aboard -- made an emergency landing at Four Corners Regional Airport Monday, according to the Farmington Daily Times.

No one was injured in what was described as an Alert Two -- where an aircraft is experiencing major difficulty, the Daily Times reported today on its Web site.

The aircraft's captain reported around 8:45 a.m. Monday that one of the plane's two engines was out, one of the firefighters called to the scene told the Daily Times.

The airport, which normally handles general aviation aircraft, usually responds to an Alert Two call about once a year, airport manager Rick Stein told the paper.

"Alert Twos are more common than people think," firefighter Dennis Bugg told the Daily Times. "It could be as simple as smoke in the cockpit (of the plane)."
