Investigators are trying to determine who set fire to the offices of one of the city's most prominent abortion providers.
Police say two people poured gasoline into Dr. Curtis Boyd's office Thursday night and ignited it. Boyd's office is the site of weekly anti-abortion protests. Boyd, who also delivers babies, has been performing abortions in Albuquerque for the past 22 years and has been nationally recognized by Planned Parenthood.
Investigators say a guest at a hotel near Interstate 25 and Lomas NE was sitting on his balcony at 11:30 Thursday night when he saw two people break a window to Boyd's office, pour gasoline into an exam room, light an object and throw it inside.
Firefighters responded within minutes and were able to contain the fire to the exam room. Investigators are asking the public to call 872-1493 if they have information.
As many as 30 protesters, organized by Project Defending Life, have demonstrated outside Boyd's office weekly for the past 10 years.
Phil Sevilla, the group's executive director, warned about assuming there was involvement by anti-abortion activists.
Boyd referred all questions to the National Abortion Federation, which said he is still providing care to patients at other facilities.
