Man seeks donations posing as relative of fallen soldier.

An unidentified man was seeking donations from downtown Farmington businesses recently, posing as a relative of Army Sgt. Clifton Yazzie, who was killed Jan. 20 while serving in Iraq, the Farmington Daily Times reported today on its Web site.

San Juan County Sheriff's Deputy Pat Otero told the Daily Times that the man was in an Outback Steakhouse about two weeks ago and asked for donations in the Yazzie family's name.

Some restaurant workers notified a cousin of Yazzie, who also worked at the steakhouse, and the man left, Otero told the paper.

Yazzie's relatives had been in Kentucky when the incident happened and reported it to the sheriff's office when they recently returned, the Daily Times reported.

Christina Tso, who is the aunt of Yazzie's widow, told the paper that a legitimate account to help surviving family members has been set up at the Four Corners Credit Union in Farmington.

Yazzie, who was killed by an improvised explosive device in Iraq along with three other soldiers, is survived by his wife, Michelle; children Chaynitta, 3, and Cayden, 18 months; his parents; brother Clifton; and sister Rhea Badonie, the paper reported.
