Power tools, copper wiring worth $40,000 were taken from Elida wind farm.

Michael Robertson, 50, of Roswell was arrested Monday in connection with the theft on Friday of some $40,000 worth of power tools and copper wiring from a wind farm near Elida in Roosevelt County, the Portales News-Tribune reported.

Chaves County deputies made the arrest after being contacted by Roosevelt County sheriff's deputies, who had investigated the theft, got a tip from a Portales police officer who reported a license plate number on a truck seen with rolls of copper wire in the bed, according to the News-Tribune.

"The success of this investigation is the direct result of the attention to detail and cooperation by all of the law enforcement personnel involved," Roosevelt County sheriff's Chief Deputy Malin Parker said in a news release.

Roosevelt County deputies also reported a still-undetermined amount of criminal damage to the wind farm property, which is operated by Mitsubishi Power Systems, the News-Tribune said.

Further charges could be filed against Robertson and there could be further arrests in the case, Roosevelt County authorities said.

Meanwhile, Robertson is being held at the Chaves County Detention Center facing charges of receiving or transferring stolen property in excess of $20,000 as well as tampering with evidence, the paper reported.
