San Juan County detectives won't charge Kirtland boy.

A 12-year-old boy told San Juan County sheriff's detectives who showed up at Grace B. Wilson Elementary School in Kirtland that he'd made a "hit list" of students who had picked on him but that he had no intention of committing violent acts, the Farmington Daily Times reported today on its Web site.

School Principal Steve Carlson told police that two students had seen and described as a "list of names with a list of what (the boy) was going to do and why," the Daily Times reported.

Detectives said no list was found and that the boy would not be criminally charged, the paper reported.
The boy, whose case was turned over to the Juvenile Parole Office, won't be allowed back in school until officials believe it is safe to do so, the Daily Times reported.

The principal described the boy as "very shy" and said he had endured a "fair amount" of name-calling and has some "disabilities," the paper reported.

But Carlson said he didn't believe the boy intended to do violence because he had shown other students the list, the Daily Times said.

"He didn't know how to deal with his anger," Carlson told the paper.

"The situation was brought to light by a parent (who) called sheriff's deputies," school principal Carlson told the Gallup Independent. "The list never included teachers, but there were several students on the list. All it mentioned was that he wanted to hurt them because they had picked on him."

According to a story on the Independent's Web site, sheriff's Sgt. Tyler Truby said two students had drawn up the list of students who had given them a hard time, but said they had destroyed the list.
