Paper: "Key to the House May Be in N.M."

We already knew the race in the 1st Congressional District is going to be a hot one, and here's one more indication. The Los Angeles Times on Saturday (thanks for the heads up from e-mailer Nancy M. Tucker) zeroed in on incumbent Republican Rep. Heather Wilson and the challenge being mounted by Democratic state Attorney General Patricia Madrid.

Last week former Democratic vice presidential candidate John Edwards made an appearance on Madrid's behalf, as did controversial former ambassador Joseph Wilson. And two weeks ago the new House Majority Leader John Boehner, R-Ohio, made a quick fund-raising stop for Wilson.

Look for more national attention in the days and weeks to come, as this New Mexico congressional race becomes a bellwether for control of the House of Representatives this fall.
