Las Cruces man in custody after neighborhood drive-by.

One man was wounded and another was arrested in an apparently gang-related drive-by shooting that disrupted a neighborhood carnival Friday in Las Cruces, the Las Cruces Sun-News reported on its Web site.

Patrick Fernandez, 21, was taken to Thomason Hospital in El Paso after being shot shortly before 8:30 p.m. Friday in the parking lot of a carnival at the corner of North Solano Drive and East Hadley Avenue, the paper reported.

Police, who said the shooting appeared to be gang-related, arrested 18-year-old Jesus Herrera, who was booked into Dona Ana County Detention Center on charges of shooting from a motor vehicle and aggravated battery, the Sun-News reported.

Two juveniles also were detained with Herrera but were released to their parents, the paper reported.
No other injuries were reported, and police are continuing their investigation.
