Winter leaves slick roads, dozens of closings and delays in its wake.

7:45am UPDATE: Jemez Valley schools have been added to the school closure list today, according to The Associated Press.

6:40am UPDATE: U.S. 550 from Bloomfield to San Ysidro is being called an "ice rink" and truckers are pulling off the road, according to KOB-TV's weather guy Steve Stucker.

6:30am UPDATE:  Cuba schools, earlier announced as being on a two-hour delay, are closed today, KOB-TV is reporting.

5:55am UPDATE: Santa Fe Public Schools are on a two-hour delay this morning, according to the latest closings/delays list from KOAT-TV.

The worst of our latest winter storm has moved on from our area -- with a possibility of light flurries this morning -- but it's cold (25 right now, going up only to the mid-30s) and the roads are cold, wet and slick with a possibility of black ice on the usual trouble spots.

Right now there are more than a hundred school and office closings and delays around the state -- mostly to the north and west, where winter did its worst, according to the latest list from KOAT-TV.

Albuquerque Public Schools' East Mountains schools are on a two-hour delay as is East Mountain High School.

Schools in Chama -- where an estimated 33 inches of snow has fallen since Friday and where Gov. Bill Richardson has declared a disaster area -- are closed today, as are Dulce, Gallup-McKinley, Jemez Mountain Public Schools, Penasco, Quemado, Taos, Thoreau and Zuni schools.

On a two-hour delay at this hour are Cuba, Espanola, Grants-Cibola County, Jemez Valley, Pecos, Pojoaque Valley, Questa, Reserve and St. Michael's High School in Santa Fe.

Los Alamos National Laboratory will open at 10 this morning.

But keep checking KOAT-TV's list, because things have been changing rapidly this morning.

You'll want to keep up with the latest road conditions around the state on the Department of Transportation's Web site or by calling 1-800-432-4269.

Most of New Mexico's active winter weather is in the northeast part of the state where a winter storm warning is in effect until 5 this afternoon, with the most snow (3 to 6 inches) expected near the Colorado border but another 1 to 3 inches as far south as Santa Rosa and Tucumcari.

A wind advisory also is in effect from 11 this morning to 5 this afternoon for southeastern New Mexico and west Texas.

Look for a respite from winter in the Albuquerque area as temperatures climb to the mid-40s under sunny skies on Wednesday, all the way up to the mid- to high 50s by Friday and Saturday.
