Pipe bomb suspected in early-morning detonation.
Silver City police got a report of a loud explosion in the downtown area around 7:30 p.m. today, and after a search were unable to turn up any evidence until a postal worker called to report evidence of a blast on Bennett Street behind the U.S. Post Office in Silver City, police said. "It's looking like it was a pipe bomb," Silver City police Capt. Chris Ponce told ABQjournal.com. "It doesn't appear that anyone was hurt," Ponce said. Silver City police are being helped in their examination of the evidence and the continuing investigation by the FBI, ATF, State Police, and postal inspectors who arrived on the scene today from Albuquerque, Ponce said.
