Magazines she lifted at LAX en route to ABQ last month end up costing $700.
The Chinese-American actress Bai Ling, who was busted for shoplifting at Los Angeles International Airport awaiting a flight to Albuquerque last month, pleaded guilty Wednesday to disturbing the peace and paid a fine and penalties totaling $700, The Associated Press reported. The actress, who has appeared in "The Crow," "Anna and the King" and "Red Corner," was charged earlier this week with petty theft, accused of stealing two Star magazines and a package of batteries worth $16.22 on Feb. 13, the AP said. She was on her way to New Mexico to work on the Taylor Hackford-directed film "Love Ranch," in which she plays one of the working girls at a Nevada brothel, according to E!News online. According to our spies, she was seen last week at Tingley Coliseum in Albuquerque for a "Love Ranch" shoot. The plea deal that was arranged this week changed the charge from petty theft to disturbing the peace, but carries the same penalties, a spokesman for the Los Angeles City Attorney's Office told the AP.
2:05pm 2/15/08 -- Guess Where Bai Ling Was Headed?: Chinese-American actress busted for shoplifting waiting for a flight to ABQ. Bai Ling, the 37-year-old Chinese-American actress who was busted for shoplifting $16 worth of magazines and batteries at Los Angeles International Airport Wednesday, was waiting for a flight to Albuquerque. She was detained by a store employee at LAX who called police and was booked for investigation of misdemeanor shoplifting, released on her own recognizance and told to appear in court March 5, according to a story on eFluxMedia.com. The online article suggests that Bai Ling may have shoplifted because of a broken heart. She told E! News that she had broken up with her boyfriend earlier that day and was feeling out of sorts, the story said. The actress, who has appeared in such films as "The Crow" and "Anna and the King" as well as on the television series "Lost" and "Entourage," was en route to New Mexico where she is filming the movie "Love Ranch" that stars Helen Mirren and Joe Pesci. Breakup aside, the thought of coming to Albuquerque -- where there is just one pretty good restaurant, a surfeit of Chili's and Applebee's and nothing to do but go to Wal-Mart (according to some other Hollywood types) -- may have been just too much to bear. Oh, wait. Wasn't it Alamogordo? Albuquerque? Alamogordo? Whatever.
