21 students unhurt, get backup bus ride to Rio Grande High School.

2/26/08 UPDATE: Here's a follow-up on yesterday's school bus collision, including the identification of the driver of the pickup, from this morning's Albuquerque Journal:

No Students Hurt In Bus Accident
A pickup truck crashed into a school bus early Monday on Isleta near Don Felipe SW.
None of the 21 Rio Grande High School students on board was reported injured, said Lt. Scott Baird, spokesman for the Bernalillo County Sheriff's Department.
The driver of the pickup, Robert Maniscalco, 22, was taken to University of New Mexico Hospital with significant back and leg injuries, Baird said.
Maniscalco was released from the hospital Monday afternoon, hospital spokeswoman Cindy Foster said.
Maniscalco was driving northbound behind the bus on Isleta, and he tried to pass it, Baird said. When he merged back into the northbound lane, his vehicle clipped the front of the bus, Baird said.
Maniscalco will be cited for passing in a no-passing zone and either careless or reckless driving, among other citations, Baird said.

12:55pm UPDATE: The driver of a pickup truck, who suffered a possible broken leg in a collision with a school bus bound for Rio Grande High School early today, has been cited for careless driving, passing in a no-passing zone and failure to maintain current vehicle registration and proof of insurance, KOB-TV is reporting.

The driver, who hasn't been named, allegedly tried to pass the school bus on the left when the bus was making a left turn, officials told Eyewitness News 4.

A school bus carrying 21 students to Rio Grande High School was in a collision at 7:05 this morning with a truck near Don Felipe and Isleta Boulevard SW, Albuquerque Public Schools spokesman Rigo Chavez told ABQjournal.com.

No one aboard the bus was injured, and the students were taken on to school on a backup bus, Chavez told us.

The driver of the truck suffered minor injuries, Chavez said.

No word yet on what caused the accident or whether anyone will be cited.
