Drivers, be warned! Expect lane closures on westbound I-40 starting tonight.

It's just a warm-up for months of work on Interstate 40 between San Mateo and Pennsylvania, expected to begin in earnest next week and continue through the end of the year, but the Albuquerque Journal's Lloyd Jojola tells us this morning we can expect lane closures over the weekend.

Beginning at 9 tonight, through 5:30 a.m. Saturday, the two left lanes of westbound I-40 will be closed for lane realignment work, the Journal said.

Here are the rest of the preparatory closures you can expect:

  • Saturday, from 9 p.m. to 7:30 a.m., westbound I-40 will have the two left lanes closed for lane realignment work;

  • Sunday, from 9 p.m. to 9 a.m., westbound I-40 will have the two right lanes closed for lane realignment work;

  • Monday, from 9 p.m. to 5:30 a.m., westbound I-40 will have the two right lanes closed for lane realignment work;

  • Tuesday, from 9 p.m. to 5:30 a.m., eastbound I-40 will have the two left lanes closed for lane realignment work; and

  • Tuesday through Thursday, from 9 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. each night, westbound I-40 will have the right lane closed to place barrier walls.
