Carlsbad man, 19, finds out that if they're not yours, you get arrested.

Nicholas W. Martin, 19, of Carlsbad, was arrested last week in connection with the Jan. 25 theft of 650 pounds of pecans worth more than $500, the Carlsbad Current-Argus reported.

Carlsbad resident Roger Davis told police in January that he had stored pecans in several gunny sacks and 14 large boxes on his patio in the back of his house, the Current-Argus said.

Davis told police he was awakened by a noise around 3 a.m. and when he went out back, he discovered the pecans were missing, the paper reported.

The homeowner then contacted C&R Pecan and told them to be on the lookout for his pecans, and some time later the company said it had purchased some "suspicious-looking" pecans from Martin, the Current-Argus said.

When police contacted Martin, they found some pecans still in containers that Davis had been using, and Martin allegedly admitted to officers that he had taken the pecans, the paper said.

Martin was released from the Eddy County Detention Center last Thursday after posting bond, according to the Current-Argus.
