Mora sheriff says county's "No. 1 drug dealer" in custody.

Carole Romero was arrested last Wednesday for trafficking crack cocaine at her home in Encinal in Mora County, and the next night her son, Gilbert "Gordo" Romero was arrested on narcotics and other charges, Mora County Sheriff John Sanchez told ABQjournal.com today.

It was the mother's information that led to a search warrant on her son's house next door and his subsequent arrest, said Sanchez.

Sanchez said his department has been investigating the younger Romero since he became sheriff a little more than a year ago, but said, "We've had no luck in catching him until now."

Gilbert Romero was nabbed by narcotics officers from the Region 4 Task Force who had been tailing him, said Sanchez, who called Romero the "No. 1 drug dealer" in Mora County.

The mother, who Sanchez said is in her early 40s, remains jailed at San Miguel Detention Center, on a $30,000 cash-only bond, while her son, who is in his early 20s, is being held on a $161,000 cash bond, the sheriff said.

A search of Gilbert Romero's home allegedly found a cache of stolen goods, believed to have been stolen by area addicts and brought to Romero's home in exchange for crack and other drugs, KOB-TV reported today on its Web site.
