52-year-old allegedly held 80-year-old hostage because she wouldn't give him money.
As Jeff Proctor reported in the Friday West Side Journal: Man Charged With Locking Up Mother An Albuquerque man is in jail on suspicion of barricading his mother inside her bedroom against her will at their West Side home for three days, court records show. James Sarracino, 52, is charged with false imprisonment with an elderly enhancement and domestic violence, both felonies, according to a criminal complaint filed in Metropolitan Court. Police, after receiving a call from the woman’s daughter, found Sarracino’s mother in her bedroom at Sarracino’s home on the 800 block of 59th NW on Tuesday afternoon, the complaint says. She told authorities her son became angry when she would not give him money, according to the complaint. He tried to trap her in the kitchen with large drywall scraps, but she was able to make her way to the bedroom. At one point, Sarracino told his mother: “You can die in there so I can get my inheritance,” the complaint states. Sarracino’s mother remained in the bedroom for three days with only one water bottle, the complaint says. Sarracino had broken the telephone, so his mother could not call for help. Sarracino remained at the Metropolitan Detention Center Thursday on a $50,000 cash or surety bond, jail records show.
James Sarracino, 52, is being held on a $50,000 cash-only bond charged with false imprisonment, accused of holding his 80-year-old mother hostage at her NW Albuquerque home for more than three days, according to online jail records and broadcast reports. Police said the woman had only a bottle of water and a bottle of soda while she was trapped inside the bedroom of a home where she had lived for 44 years, according to KOB-TV . The woman also told police that Sarracino broke her only phone so she couldn't call for help, Eyewitness News 4 reported. According to KOAT-TV, the woman told police her son locked her in so she would die and he could collect his inheritance, while police told KOB-TV that Sarracino wanted his mother dead because she wouldn't give him any money. Sarracino was remodeling his mother's home when he began leaving construction debris in her path throughout the house, and at one point piled debris in front of her bedroom, telling her: "You can die in there, so I can get my inheritance," police told Eyewitness News 4. The woman was recovering on Thursday, KOAT-TV reported. Sarracino denied the allegations but police didn't believe him, according to Action 7 News.
