Conferees agree to $253.7 million energy relief package.

The full Senate has just approved on a voice vote an agreement by House-Senate conferees that includes an income-tax reduction for the highest income bracket, some $106 million in income-tax ebates, a $37.5 million home heating assistance package, but no sales tax holiday that was originally part of the Senate bill.
Gov. Bill Richardson had objected to the Senate's original $260 million price tag as excessive, but House and Senate negotiators came up with a package that nearly equals the original Senate figure.
The package was expected to cost an overall $253.7 million over two years. Richardson wasn't immediately available for comment.
The House must now vote on the package before it is sent on to the governor.
