Marijuana found at Border Patrol checkpoint on U.S. 54 near Alamogordo.

Border Patrol agents at an Alamogordo checkpoint seized more than a half-ton of marijuana on Tuesday, the Las Cruces Sun-News reported.

The marijuana was found several plastic-wrapped bundles in a compartment of a Ford van after the 44-year-old driver began acting suspiciously, according to a news release.

After being given a consent to search the vehicle, agents discovered 25 bundles of what appeared to be marijuana in a wooden compartment apparently used to hold tools and other items, the paper reported.

The driver and a 32-year-old passenger, whose names weren't released, were arrested and turned over along with the vehicle and the drugs to the Drug Enforcement Administration in Las Cruces, the Sun-News said.
