ABQ man, 24, died in Wednesday morning I-40 smash-up.

Albuquerque police have identified the driver of a blue Volkswagen Jetta that tripped off a collision that closed off eastbound Interstate 40 for three hours Wednesday morning as 24-year-old Adrian Kemmerer of Albuquerque.

Police still don't know why Kemmerer's Jetta suddenly lurched into the right-hand guard rail on eastbound I-40 around 3 a.m. Wednesday, but it set off a chain of events that left Kemmerer dead at the scene.

The Jetta spun into a white semi-truck, causing both to flip over and slide into the guard rail, forcing the closure of eastbound I-40 for hours.

The driver of the semi-truck, Terry Bland, was not seriously injured in the crash, police said.
