Police: Incident that killed one, injured two was more family feud than gang fight.

Natalie Martinez, 22, of Bloomfield, has been charged with third-degree vehicular homicide in connection with a fracas on Monday that left another Bloomfield woman, 34-year-old Carla Alcon, dead and two men injured, the Farmington Daily Times reported.

Alcon was pronounced dead outside her home following a fight that police originally thought could be gang-related but appears to have stemmed from an argument over auto parts, the Daily Times reported.

Injured in the incident were Ivan Martinez, Natalie Martinez's 41-year-old father, and Shawn Gabilando, 27, who police believe were hit by a truck driven by Alcon's 20-year-old son Steven, who saw the men attacking his mother, the Daily Times said.

Police said Natalie Martinez was watching the fight from inside her pickup truck and drove her truck toward Alcon, who was attacking Martinez's father, the paper reported.

Martinez left the scene and was pulled over driving her truck east of Bloomfield around 5 p.m. Monday and was arrested, the Daily Times said.

Of the injured men, Ivan Martinez remained hospitalized at San Juan Regional Medical Center in fair condition, while Gabilando was treated and released, the paper reported.

Bloomfield Police Chief Drew Standley said additional charges could be brought against other involved in the fight, pending further investigation.

Police now believe that the fight stemmed from a disagreement over the sale of vehicle wheel rims, and while some of those involved allegedly have gang ties, the incident is not considered gang-related, the Daily Times said.

6:05am 3/18/08 -- Bloomfield Woman Dead in Apparent Gang Scuffle: 34-year-old run over by pickup following Monday afternoon rumble.

Carla Alcon, 34, of Bloomfield was pronounced dead after being run over by a red diesel pickup truck at the scene of a fight involving as many as 10 people around 3:30 p.m. Monday, police told the Farmington Daily Times.

Two males, whose names weren't released, were injured in a scuffle police believe to be gang-related and were taken to San Juan Regional Medical Center in Farmington, the Daily Times reported.

"We think there were two separate encounters," Bloomfield Police Chief Drew Standley told the Daily Times. "The initial one is the one we believe (the two males) may have been injured in, and that, too, could have been involving a vehicle, but the decedent was hit by a red diesel pickup truck."

Standley said a number of people present at the fight who were known to be gang members and were uncooperative with law enforcement, the Daily Times said.

Sticks and possibly a knife were used as weapons in the fight, but it is unknown what role vehicles may have played in the incident, the paper reported.

The truck police believe was involved in the incident was pulled over by State Police on U.S. 64 east of Bloomfield, but there was no word on whether the driver was arrested, the Daily Times said.

The emergency room at San Juan Regional Medical Center was locked down for two hours following the fight to prevent possible gang retaliation, but no incidents were reported at the hospital, the paper reported.
