State park remains open, but fishing is only allowed from the shore.

Eagle Nest Lake has been closed to ice fishing because of recent warm weather and high winds that have resulted in unsafe ice conditions, the state Department of Game and Fish and New Mexico State Parks announced today.

Although the lake remains covered with ice, the ice is getting soft and is expected to begin breaking up, the agencies said in a news release.

Eagle Nest Lake State Park will remain open, and fishing will be allowed only from the shore in areas of open water, the release said.

Anglers are advised to contact the state park at (505) 377-1594 for information on current ice and fishing conditions.
