Above-normal temperatures, sunny skies on tap for Albuquerque this week.
It's a chilly morning, but our high today should be four or five degrees above the average high for this date of 64, but for the rest of the week expect temperatures to top out in the low to mid 70s, according to the National Weather Service. The only fly in the ointment appears to be increasingly dry air and stronger winds kicking up around Wednesday, bringing critical fire weather conditions our way and points east, with the worst expected to come on Thursday, according to this morning's area forecast discussion. In fact, according to a fire weather watch just posted by the weather service, those critical conditions will be making an appearance along the eastern slopes of the Sandias and Manzanos into the eastern plains from Tuesday afternoon through Tuesday evening. Increasing westerly winds along with warmer temperatures and drier air will bring some tinderbox conditions all the way into the western Kiowa grasslands, the weather service warns.
