Thousands of dollars worth of steel plates allegedly sold to Artesia scrap metal distributor.

Francisco Garcia, 31, of Carlsbad has been charged with receiving and disposing of stolen property between $2,500 and $25,000 after allegedly selling steel plates taken from a railroad yard to the Steel Depot in Artesia in June 2007, the Carlsbad Current-Argus reported.

According to a criminal complaint, the Artesia firm bought a load of steel plates from an individual later identified in a photo lineup as Garcia, the Current-Argus reported.

The plates had been reported stolen from the Southwestern Railroad yard in Carlsbad, the paper said.

Garcia, who also was wanted on an outstanding warrant for parole violation, is scheduled for a preliminary hearing in Carlsbad Magistrate Court on April 3, the Current-Argus reported.
