Clovis 18-year-old is serving juvenile sentence in 2005 murder of 10-year-old.

Orlando Salas, 18, who is serving a juvenile sentence in the Sept. 15, 2005, of 10-year-old Carlos Perez in Clovis, is now accused of stabbing a guard at the Youth Diagnostic and Development Center in Albuquerque, the Clovis News Journal reported.

Salas is accused of biting the guard's hand and stabbing the officer three times with a pencil, the News Journal reported.

The guard, who had a stab wound one inch from his eye, is expected to recover from the injuries, according to a report on KOB-TV.

Salas was originally indicted for first-degree murder in Perez's death, along with his brothers 22-year-old Demetrio Salas and 23-year-old Edward Salas, and two other defendants -- David Griego, 31, and Noe Torres, 28, the News Journal reported.

He pleaded guilty to lesser charges and was sentenced as a juvenile in exchange for his testimony against co-defendants, but he refused to testify against one of his brothers, who was convicted anyway by a Roosevelt County jury, the paper reported.

District Attorney Matt Chandler said he learned of the incident Tuesday night and told the News Journal that the issue of revoking Orlando Salas' plea agreement is now in the hands of the courts.

According to a report on KRQE News 13, the incident at YDDC occurred over the weekend, and Salas was arrested by State Police at the juvenile center and taken to the Bernalillo County Metropolitan Detention Center.

Children, Youth and Families Department spokeswoman Romaine Serna told News 13 that the guard had been on the job just three months.
