Police, deputies clear two early-morning SWAT incidents.
The Albuquerque Police Department's SWAT situation at Hendrix and San Pedro NE was lifted around 9 a.m., but the search for a suspected armed robber, a 5-foot-8-inch white male in his 20s with sandy blond hair wearing dark clothing, continues. APD spokeswoman Trish Hoffman said police searched the entire area, even went into Gov. Bent Elementary School and found no trace of the suspect. "Obviously, he's no longer in the area," said Hoffman, who said detectives will continue to search for the suspect. The man police believe to have been involved in an early-morning armed robbery of a convenience store at Wyoming and Constitution, took off on foot when police stopped a purple Dodge Neon at San Pedro and Ponderosa NE and was thought to be carrying an assault rifle, police said. Meanwhile, another SWAT situation at 9105 Silverwood NE, near Louisiana and Alameda, has been resolved "without any major problem," said Bernalillo County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Erin Kinnard. In what appears to have been a domestic dispute, a man in his early 40s "had a weapon and there were a couple of shots fired," said Kinnard. But, she said, no one was injured and deputies continued to question the man. As of this hour, no arrest has been made, Kinnard said.
6:55am -- Armed Man Sought: APD searches NE Heights neighborhood for robbery suspect SWAT teams poured into a residential neighborhood at San Pedro and Hendrix NE looking for a man who may be armed with an assault rifle. APD spokeswoman Trish Hoffman said there was an armed robbery at a Circle K convenience store at Wyoming and Constitution NE at 2:55 a.m. Thursday. Police stopped a suspicious vehicle at San Pedro and Ponderosa NE at 4:18 a.m. and the passenger fled westbound on foot apparently carrying an assault rifle, Hoffman said. The driver, who is not identified, was taken into custody. Hoffman said police are looking for a white male in his 20s about 5 feet 8 inches with sandy brown hair wearing dark clothing. Meanwhile, a second SWAT situation is developing at 9105 Silverwood NE, near Louisiana and Alameda, apparently involving shots fired in a domestic dispute. Hoffman said the Bernalillo County Sheriff's SWAT unit is handling the second situation because APD's hands are full.
6am -- SWAT Situation Unfolding: ABQ police set up perimeter near Gov. Bent Elementary Police are looking for a possible burglar who was seen on foot near the intersection of San Pedro and Hendrix NE just south of Montgomery in Albuquerque, said APD spokeswoman Trish Hoffman. The suspect may be carrying a long gun, Hoffman said. Traffic was being blocked on San Pedro, so drivers were being urged to find alternate routes. Del Norte High School is nearby.
